Colton Believes in Magic

Reading Puss in Boots, since we just finished the movie ~
Me (reading): The King immediately commanded the officers of his wardrobe to run and fetch one of his best suits for the Lord Marquis of Carabas.
C: Why do those guys have a wardrobe?

C: I'm saving marbles on top of my head, under my hat!

C: This train is old because it's not very useful!

C: This train hasn't been used in a hundred-hundred years because of all this dust.

Dad: Hopefully he's done crankin'.  (Jensen)
C: He's not allowed to come downstairs if he's cranky forever!

Me: Are the beans you got magic beans?
C: Maybe. Because we got them at the fruit market.

Me: What's all over your pants?
C: Peanut butter.
Me: Why do you have peanut butter on your pants?
C: It's from when I was eating peanut butter and Cheerios for snack.
Me: You need to ask before you have peanut butter.
C: Oh, sorry.  But I didn't want to wake my dad!
LOL, this boy is so like his mama with regard to peanut butter!

Hi, it’s “Dad” here, with a special guest blog section. ~

Of course you’ve been enjoying all of the Coltonisms, as do we when we hear them. Today’s episode, which occurred at the local Fruit/Vegetable Market, has a little bit of a light tone to it but also underscores the difference in attitude towards food that Colton has as compared to many other children that we have seen or heard stories about.

Scene: We are in the vegetable aisle at the market, having already gone through the fruit section. Colton’s last selection was a pair of avocados larger than my fist.

Now first, we will see how this conversation would have gone with just about any other child ~

Dad: Ooh, hey. Should we get more green beans?
OC: Ewwww! No!
Dad: Why not?
OC: I don’t like beans. They’re (insert negative adjective here).

What ACTUALLY happened ~
Dad: Ooh, hey. Should we get more green beans?
C: YEAH! Hey can I pick them out?
Dad: Sure, buddy. Let me get a bag.
C: YAAAY!

It struck me after we checked out that pretty much any other kid I know would have been grossed out by fresh green beans. I generally don’t like to stir the political pot, that’s my dad’s thing. But in this case, I think we should all take a hard look at how we feed our own children. Especially if we complain about what our schools feed them.

Silly Colton Is Silly

C: Something hurts on my face.
Me: Are your lips chapped?  Would you like some chapstick?
C: No, it's just my mustache that hurts.

Me: Kiwis have lots of vitamin C in them to help you get over your cold.
C: This kiwi doesn't look like A-B-C, it looks like directions!

C: Mom, I left this juice out over night.  It's 'spired.  (expired)

C: Silly Colton!  I was trying stuff that was silly.

C: Maybe we can go play outside.
Me: It's pretty cold out there, buddy.
C: You can wear my snow pants.
Me: They're a little short.
C: When I'm big enough, on Sunday, I'll get you a big, big, large one that's all the way up to the ceiling!
Me: Those will probably fit!

C: I'm gonna go downstairs to get my books, if they're still alive.
