Colton on Aging

Colton watches Olympic volleyball
C: I'm sorry you have to go out to dinner.
We're not!

C: How come all the birthday decorations are down?
Me: Because it's no longer your birthday.
C: Except that sign.
Me: Do you know why that sign is still up?
C: No.
Me: Because tomorrow is my birthday.
C: And I will help you blow out your candles!
Me: Do you know how many candles will be on my cake?
C: 34.  And Mom?  I think we might need a few helpers.

C: Can I help you lick the candles?
Me: You can lick all the candles.
C: I remember one time when Aunt Shannon and me both licked the candles and I want to do that with you!
Aww...

C: Mom, I don't think your ideas are true!
Stinker is mad that he has to get ready for bed.

C: Do you know what I'm thinking about?
Me: No, what?
C: I'm thinking of having a pillow fight with Dad. And whoever gets knocked down 5 times is the strongest!  See, when I go like this [flexes muscles], I have big muscles!

Colton Plays Doctor

C: Have you been thinking about making me happy?
Me: I always like it when you're happy, buddy.
C: What would make me even happier is to have my own swing set!
Me: I see. And where should we put it?
C: Over by my playhouse and the slide can go down into it!

C: Dad, can you pause? I need to get this eyeball out of my eye.

C: I picked this for a very good reason. If the babies are sick, and they don't have an appointment that day, you could just use this.

C: Could you call Jordan or email Sarah to let her know I'm going to be a doctor some day?

C: This has 3 things.  The listen to heart thing, the shot-er, and this.  This (bandage scissors) is for when they get shots, they won't itch.

C: Will I see you in the morning?
Me: No, sorry, it's a work day.
C: When will it be a running day?
Me: Saturday.

C: Did you know that teriyaki makes the best food?

C: Mom, did you know that I'm even braver than Dad?
(only with regard to going to the dentist 😉)

Location, Location, Location

C: Ow, my foot hurts!
Me: Did it fall asleep?
C: No, it's not stinging. But it really hurts!  See?
Me: I can't see a hurt, buddy.

C: We really should stop living in Everett, and we should live in Yellowstone!
Me: Well, how would we get to school then?
C: We could just take an airplane, and we would get up really early before breakfast, and not eat breakfast until after school.

C: I really am full of great ideas!

C: Can we go to the doctor now?
Me: No, our appointment is at 3.
C: Why do you always make appointments at 3?! I don't like appointments at 3!
He was not excited about going to the doctor, only that he got to play on my iPod in the waiting room.

Me: Did you have fun playing in your playhouse?
C: I don't know.
Me: You don't know if you had fun?
C: I don't remember.
Me: I see.
C: That Shrek really weared me out.

C: Can I help?  I'm going to be the best helper ever!
Me: Sure, stand here.
C: We're being really good to the Earth!
Me: Yes, I'm sure the weeds love being pulled.

Colton's Day out with Thomas

C: When we stand at the top of the highest hill, we'll have to look to see if we can see around the whole Earth. If not, then we're in the wrong spot.

C: Can I have some peas?
Me: Here, eat this one.
C: Can I have some more?
Me: You'll have to grab one off J's tray.
...
C: All done!
Me: Did you eat all his peas?
C: I was just helping!

C: We should have Lunchtables for lunch!
Me: You already had one for snack.
C: No I didn’t. I didn’t get a treat with it, and to be a Lunchtable, it needs to have a treat with it. Got it?

Awesome fashion by Colton
C: OW!  I hurt my finger!  See?  It really hurts!
Me: I'm sorry your finger hurts, but I can't see a hurt.
C: But it really hurts! And it won't stop hurting!
Me: I believe you.

C: I don't want to complain, but I have to complain because I just don't like cleaning up!

C: I don't want to go to bed!  I don't want to be bored!

Boxed Colton

C: I'm giving you a box hug, because I'm pretending to be a box!

C: If I were king, everyone would eat tortellini for dinner!
Me: You would get sick of tortellini after a while.
C: No I wouldn’t!
Me: If you ate it every single day, you would.
C: But it would have carrots. And carrots are healthy for people!

C: Can I have more tortellini?
Me: Sorry, bud, we’re all out.
C: Why do you always only let me have one bowl of tortellini? I am always hungry for tortellini!
Me: Well, because I gave you a big bowl, for starters, and I split it between you, me, & Dad.
C: It’s okay if Dad doesn’t have tortellini.

C: Look! A money!
Me: What does that money have on it?
C: A five.
Me: Why do you think it has a five on it?
C: I don’t know.
Me: How old are you?
C: Five. And I hope when I am six, I will get a six dollar bill!
Thank you Oma & Opa!!

Me: Wow! Great job swimming today! You are doing awesome!
C: Yeah, I'm the swim expert!

C: I'm so excited that it's almost dinnertime, and soon it will be my bedtime!
Me: You're excited for bedtime?  Who are you and what did you do with Colton?
C: I'm excited because soon it will be Day out with Thomas time!

Colton and Summer Vacay

C: I think we should go to McDonald's!
Me: Jordan doesn't eat there, buddy.
C: Why? The chicken nuggets and fries are better 'n desserts!
/facepalm

C: Don't you wish we could go on vacation?
Me: I do. Where should we go?
C: Maybe back to Phoenix!   [This from the boy who's melting at 80°]
Me: The other Colton moved near there.
C: Why?
Me: Because, that's where he's living now.
C: And maybe we could visit next day!

  • Charity, apparently you're getting visitors soon!

C: And the next season, will be blueberry season!  Do you know where the blueberries go during the fall & winter?
Me: No, where?
C: On summer vacation!

C: I better not leave my cup outside!
Dad: Probably not.
C: Or else when I come back, it will be full of squirrel poop!
Dad: Colton, that's gross.
C: Yeah, but it's true!

C: Are you excited for the Day Out With Thomas?  We will go straight to the gift shop when we get there, then we'll ride the train, and then we'll play! Is that a good idea?
Me: Sure, buddy.

Colton Is Jaded

Dad: Good morning, buddy!
C: I'm still waking up.

C: Do you know the rules to water balloon fights? Because there are rules for everything, you know.

C: My fingernails just aren't growing back!
Me: It takes more than a day for them to come back.

C: Watch out for my Angry Birds, or they will get angry with you!

Colton vs Hockey Take 2

C: Do you like my hockey style?

C: I'm getting better!
Dad: Yay!

C: I'm tired. I'm all wore'd out.

Colton Turns 5

C: Are you glad that I'm turning five?
Me: You're already five.
C: No, I'm not five until I blow out the candles on my cake.
Me: Oh, okay.  So I won't feel old until then.

C: I'm hungry.
Me: Again?
C: After all, I am the eating machine.
Me: I guess so!

C: My elbow hurts from the bouncy house, so I think I need to skate now.

C: Those strawberries hurt my tongue.
Me: Did you sprain it?
C: I think so.

Me: Did you have a fun birthday?
C: Yes! After all, I am the Angry Birds Train Boy!

If You Give a Colton a Cookie

Launching rockets with Dad 6/24
Me: Is it hard to be a Colton?
C: It's hard when he really wants a cookie and doesn't get a cookie.

Colton & Mateo
C: We can go somewhere really special for dinner!
Me: Yeah?
C: Yeah, to McDonalds!
Me: I thought you couldn't eat McDonalds anymore?
C: I'm all done throwing up, so I can now!
Darn.

Footprints after a playing in a mud hole
C: Do you know what the most important part about living?
Me: What?
C: To take care of our house so it doesn’t collapse.
There you have it; the secret to life.

4th of July...to which he wore his CANADA shirt
C: I'm really tired of waiting for the fireworks show.
We only heard this allllll day.

July 5th @ Forest Park
C & Brenden: MORE FIREWORKS! MORE FIRE!
It was a Beavis & Butthead evening.

Sun break :)
C: I'm going downstairs where nobody can bug me!
Me: I'm the only one here.
C: But if you want to check on me, that's fine. And if you decide to come cuddle with me, that's fine with me too.

Colton the Foodie

And now, a word from our sponsor....
(Colton M&Ms Please)

Me: Dad and I will both be home on Thursday.
C: Does that mean we can have Dutch babies?
Me: I don't know, you'll have to ask the cook!

Me: I brought you a cupcake home from our potluck!
C: That's just what I always wanted you to bring!

Me: Did you like your cupcake?
C: Yep!  But I would rather have what was on the sign.  When can we go to the dessert store again?  I will tell Dad to get me some cookie dough. Because that's what I've always wanted!
Me: You can help me make cookies tomorrow instead, and then you will have some dough to eat.

Licking the batter for the zucchini bread (yes, we made both) ~
C: This is even better than the cookie batter!

C: Are you excited for the fireworks show?  It's going to be the best fireworks ever!

C: I'm going to save a sparkler for Dad!

C: I am sad that all my friends are 5 before me.
Me: But you'll be 5 in a few more days!
C: And Mom? We just have to go to Red Robin to get some balloons to decorate.

C: You know what will be the best present ever? To have all of my family at my party!
Me: How come that's the best present ever?
C: Because I would have so many people to hug!  Like you, and Dad, and Nanan, and Nana...

C: I'm tired of waiting for that fireworks show.
Me: Well, I can't make it darker.
C: Well, if we lasso down the sun, then the moon will come out. And then it would be sunny in our car!

C: I have to tell you something.  The sun is a really strong energy source so we can't have it in something small like a car.

Me: Where did my sunshine go?
C: We should just take down all those gray clouds!

Colton Is Cuddly

Strawberry crop from our deck!
C: I can't hold down McDonald's anymore.  Dad tried, but it doesn't work.
Oh darn.

C: You know what would be the best present of all?
Me: What?
C: Being here with all of my family.
Aww!

C: Dad said I could handle one of the fireworks all by myself!
Me: The sparklers? Sure.
C: No, the things that go crack. (Pop-its)

C: Don't you wish you could just stay here and cuddle with me all day?
Me: You'd like that, huh?

C: Dad? Do you know what would be the coolest on your computer?
Dad: What?
C: Abcmouse.com!
Dad: And where did you learn that?
C: From Sprout!

C: And you know those old cell phones that don't work anymore? You put them in any US mailbox and they turn into cash!
Dad: And where did you hear that?
C: Sprout. I watch too much Sprout, don't I?

C: Fireworks!  I heard them because my window was open.  I could listen to them ALL night!
