At Least He's Honest

Me: What does being on good behavior mean?
C: If I ask too many times, I get what I want.
Me: No, if you ask too many times you don't get what you want. Being on your best behavior means that when it's time to go, you come with me without throwing a tantrum.  Right?
C: Right.
Me: So when it's time to go, are you going to come with me without making a fuss?
C: I don't know yet.

C: My back is still sleepy.  It's just taking a little nap.

C: Want to play Solitaire?
Me: Not right now.  I'm going to read some email.
C: Well, I'm gonna grab you a box of Solitaire. Just tell me when you're ready!

Me: Tomorrow is a brand new year!
C: And can we use the water balloons now?
Me: Not yet.  It needs to get much warmer.

Me: Go play with your trains.
C: But first I need a grown-up to help!

Colton Goes Places

C & D on the play mat.  I think C may love it more.
C: In my dreams, I go places!
Me: Where did you go?
C: Nowhere.
Me: I meant, where did you go in your dreams?
C: I have to shut my eyes really tight and I didn't shut them tight enough.

C: I like the house messy!
Me: I don't.
C: Too bad. It's my turn to make the rules.

C: Buying trains is the most funnest part of playing with trains.
Me: I see.
C: Yeah. And giving trains to others, and then buying new trains!

Colton Is Angry

I finally relented and let him install Angry Birds..
C: Is your iPod done charging?
Me: Yes, but remember you lost the privilege to use it.
C: I don't like that.
Me: Then, the next time you get mad, maybe you won't spit. [He got mad when he was told he couldn't use it whenever he wanted to.]
C: I wasn't mad, I was angry!

C: I wish I could just fly up in the sky and jump on the clouds, and then the rain would all come out in one big bit!

C: I don't want it to rain ever again!
Me: Then we couldn't have a rainbow.
C: I don't want it to rain! Not at the park, and not at our house!

C: I want Uncle Jon's trains!
Me: Sorry, buddy.  They're too expensive.
C: When can I go to work?
Me: When you're older.

Colton Builds a Train

Hmm.  C got glow in the dark stars and planets in his stocking and it included Pluto.  To put it up or not?  Eh, why not!

C: I'm gonna hang this on the door nozzle! (knob)

Me: Dad is bringing us donuts this morning!
C: Will they have sugar in them?
Me: Of course.
C: I'm gonna have a candy cane with mine!

Dad brought us Frost donuts this morning with yesterday's Groupon.  YUM!
Me: What's inside your donut?
C: There's gonna be bread!

C: I wish Christmas would come. I didn't get enough Christmas.

C: This is the most fabulous dribble car ever!
Me: Dribble car? What's that?
C: It's a really fast car!

C: This engine is gonna love being green!

Me: D likes your train. See? He's smiling at you.
C: He'll like it when I add more black. He's gonna be shocked!

C: I told you I was a painting artist!  I'm a really good painting artist!

C: I wish I could fit in this package. Then you could see me! And take out a big brother!
Huh. I didn't realize you could buy a big brother at the store!

Colton & Dad Go Skating

Colton & I got Dad a new "hockey dad" practice jersey for Christmas :)  The boys took it for a test drive today.

C: I'm going to play in the NHL!
Dad: You are? I'd be really proud of you.  What team will you play on?
C: All of them!  And I'm gonna win them all!

C: This candy cane is light blue and dark blue.
Me: What flavor is it?
C: Blueberry. You know? I can't tell.

C: That baby is crying.  Not our babies.
Thank you Capt Play-by-play.

C: Can you make the Christmas clouds come down?
Me: What are Christmas clouds?
C: They make the snow come!  And that's when Santa Claus comes!
Me: Oh.  Christmas is over, bud.  Sorry.  And it's not cold enough to snow.

C: Look at my big picture!
Dad: Wow, that is a big picture.
C: I told you I was a big artist!

C: Look at the jammies I'm wearing!
Me: Those look pretty cozy!
C: Yeah, they even out all the cold!

Colton Does Christmas

Santa wrote Colton a letter to address yesterday's gnarly temper tantrum ~

Dad: Santa left you a letter next to plate of cookies that you left for him.
C: Are there any cookies left?
Me: No, buddy.  You left them for Santa.
Dad: Do you want me to read the letter he left?
C: Yeah.
Dad: Dear Colton, You've been a pretty good boy this year, so I kept you on my nice list.  You need to work on listening to your mom & dad and not throw tantrums when it's time to go. And keep picking up those toys so I can keep you on my nice list.  Love, Santa.  Hmm.  Looks like Santa saw that tantrum you threw yesterday.  What do you have to say?
C: Sorry, Santa.

I got a Colton in a box!
C: I'm gonna go check the tree!!  And see if Santa came!

Aunt Shannon was very excited ;)
Me: You can pick one gift to open before we go to Granddad's.
C: I'm looking for one that looks like a train set!
Me: Sorry, buddy.  Santa didn't think you needed any more trains.

Dad & Colton work on Legos
C: I'm getting really tired of this wrapping!

Colton & Uncle Craig work on more Legos
C: Santa just LOVES to bring me things!

Finger-painting with Audrey & Uncle Craig in their new "makers" (aprons)
Dad: Read the tag.  What does it say?
C: This is from SANTA!
Dad: No, it's from Granddad and Grandma.

Colton had an awesome Christmas!  And really, aside from the over-tired / overly excited tantrum from yesterday, he really was well-behaved all things considered.  He sure has a wonderful family that spoiled him rotten again this year!

Colton Does Christmas Eve

C: Try not to get Bingo.  I have two in a row like you!

C: I'm high-fiving feet to hands!

Cousin Riley
C: Why are you wearing these big socks?  (tights)

C: I bonked my head.
Me: Do you need me to kiss it?
C: It's under my hair!

Driving the trains..and concentrating!
C: There is a train that's not working. It hasn't been downloaded yet.

Jordan: Sounds like you need a job.
C: I'm going to do all my chores and work so I can get money for trains!  And I am going to get 16 monies! So I can have 16 trains!

C, Riley & Uncle Jon
Uncle Jon's trains were working (yay!!) and were such a big hit that even Santa couldn't convince C to come home!
Me: Buddy, we have to leave so Santa Claus can come.
C: No thanks.
Me: You don't have a choice.  We have to go home.
C: But I want to spend the night!
Me: But Santa can't come if he doesn't know where you are.  And I would miss you.
C: You can see me next Christmas!
Me: No, buddy.  It's time to go.
Uncle Jon: You can come back any time.
C: Mom, we're not going to Granddad's the next day!  We're going to Uncle Jon's!

The train set!

Colton Might Be Excited

C: You should try the gingerbread cookies!  They are really sweet and decorated!

Yellow Pages delivery ~
C: Is that my present?

C: I hope Uncle Jon will clean up his floor so the trains will be working!
Me: Sorry, buddy.. the trains won't be working this year.

3 minutes after I put him to bed ~
C: I'm having trouble going to sleep.
Me: Go back and try.
1 minute later ~
C: I'm going to watch it snow!
Me: No buddy, it's not going to snow tonight.
C: Well, when is it going to snow?
Me: I don't know, but not tonight.
5 minutes later ~
C: I don't know if it's gonna snow tonight!
Me: It's not going to snow tonight.  Good night.
1 minute later ~
C: Can I have a hug & a kiss?
Me: You already got one.  Good night!

Colton Handles Disappointment

Colton really wanted to wear the shirt D&C
gave him when they were out. So cute!
C: Dad, why did you have to work last night?
Dad: Because I had to work.
C: I wish they didn't call it work.
Dad: What do you wish they called it?
C: Mooning!
Dad: I don't think my employer would like that, buddy.

Me: Hug?
C: But Dad already gave me a hug and a kiss.
Me: Well, fine. If you don't want one...

C: Look!  That house has a kah-zeal-ion lights!

Me: Thank you for being such a good boy tonight.
C: Thank you for saying that!

C: I want to make mama milk!
Me: That would be nice.  Then I could sleep.
C: And I could just feed one baby, and you could feed the other!
Me: I guess I couldn't sleep then.

Me: Buddy, I have some bad news.  There was a water accident in Uncle Jon's garage so they had to move some stuff in the train room, and the trains won't be working at Christmas.
C: I wish I could build Uncle Jon a new train set that could run in the water!  But I might need to borrow some of your tools!
Me: All of your tools are in the drawer under your bed.
C: OH! First I need to make a foundation under the ground for the trains. And when I'm finished making my foundation, I'm going to need to fill them in with concrete!

I'm so bringing the bath trains!
C: I wish that Jon didn't spill any water!
Me: I know, buddy. I'm sorry.

C: Excuse me, Mom.  I need you to stop being on the phone!

Colton on the North Pole

Gingerbread cookies from Nana's!
Mom brain strikes again ~
Sarah: Your mom went back to get the diaper bag.
C: Why don't you have enough diapers?!

C: You can come drive the train!
Me: Oh, that's okay, bud.  I'm holding the baby.  You can drive it.
C: You can just put the baby in your elbow!

C: What if I keep making decorations and decorations?
Me: Then the house would be very decorated.
C: Yeah, I will make twenty-HUNDRED!  Is that a lot of decorations?

Me: Look at that house!  It has lots of pretty lights.
C: It might be the North Pole!  ...  Nope, it's not.
Me: Look at that tree.  Someone really did a nice job decorating it!
C: It might be the North Pole!
Me: And there's another pretty house out your window.
C: It might be the North Pole!

Colton on Gravity

C: That was too much gravity, Mom!

C: Mom, I'm making air to make electricity so the sinks can run.

C: Can I drink some more electricity?

C: At 7:30, we're gonna start the game and you have to be in it! You're my best friend! You better hurry and practice!

Drawing on his Magna Doodle ~
C: That's a drawing intersection.

C: I don't want this carpet to be a carpet! It needs to be really flat and I need a seat belt to make me go down the stairs faster.
C was using a kickboard to slide down the stairs and really wanted his belt to be longer so he'd have a seat belt.  LOL!

Colton on Choices

C: Skating kinda gets my legs tired.

C: Are we taking the babies?
Me: Of course, we can't leave them at home. They are going to stay and play with Nana.
C: Did Sarah pump so the babies can stay?
Me: No, I did.  Thankyouverymuch.
LOL!

C: Will you play Solitaire with me?
Me: Playing solitaire implies playing by yourself.
C: But Oma said you have to play!

Me: Bath or bed.  Those are your choices.
C: I don't like that choice! I don't want you to be the mom anymore! ... You were right. I did need a bath.

C: Why is that re-deck-u-lous?

Me: What was your favorite thing today?
C: Everything. But I'll tell you what was my favorite thing while I was still awake.
Me: And that was?
C: Playing with my Lincoln Logs. But I had a problem and my house fell down.

Colton Finds a Seed

C: Dad showed me how to cut my waffles so I could deal the cards much better! I can deal the cards as well as I always could.
Shiny!

C: This is a sweeper to wave bad guys away by using air!

C: Can you finish erasing off this page?  Remember, this side is the eraser.

C: I am going to email this picture to Santa, and then I'm going to have my cookie, and then I'm going to do some work. I'm going to sign myself up for work.  How did you sign yourself up for work?

C: I hope the Grinch doesn't come when it's Christmas!
Me: I hope not.
C: Why?
Me: You saw what he did. He came and took the Whos' Christmas.
C: And I will catch him in a NET!  Will that be a good idea?

C: Mom, I found a noodle seed!
Me: A noodle seed?
C: See this white thing? It's a noodle seed.

C: If we didn't have babies coming, it would be much quieter!  And everything would be back to normal.
He means the twins...  There better not be more babies coming!

Colton on Christmas Wishes

Gingerbread train; 12/11/11
C: I am going to email my list to Santa!  Our wishes have to take flight through the chimney and go to the mall!  First stage, you have to make sure that Santa is still at the mall! Mom, is Santa still at the mall?

C: I am going to write you a letter to Santa.  Here's your letter!  It has my name on the back, because I wrote it! Was that nice of me?

C: Can you let me play on my touchpad for a little bit?  (aka the calculator)

C: Mom, I'm cheating.
Me: People don't like to play with you when you're cheating, buddy.
C: But I'm playing all by myself.  Remember?

C: While you feed the baby, I'll do your work and play games on your computer.
Me: That's not quite what my work is, bud.

Colton Writes a Letter to Santa

Letter to Santa.  It reads: "diapers" on left; "doll"
in center & "pajammies" on the right.
C: Why do you want to go to work?
Dad: I don't want to go to work; I have to go to work.
C: But why do you want to go to work?
Dad: I have to, so we have food to eat.
C: But we have lots of food and you could stay home with the babies!

C: Hey Mom, this is your car.  Try not to put your coffee on it!

C: Mom, I'm sorry. I didn't make any turns on this road.

C: What if you weren't a mama?
Me: What if?
C: Then the boys would be mamas! And when I grow up, I want to be a mama too!
Me: You do? How come?
C: Because that's what I want to be!

C: I wrote my letter to Santa!
Me: What's it say?
C: Doll.  Because I wanted a doll.

C: I don't like when it's clean down here!

C: Why did you only warn me three times?  I want you to warn me sixteen times!

Colton and Presents

Colton wrapped presents for Jor
Dad: (reading a bumper sticker) Harry Potter is about confronting fears, finding inner strength and doing what is right in the face of adversity. Twilight is about how important it is to have a boyfriend.
C: And I am a boyfriend!

Dad: Don't put your fingers in your eye.
C: But it helps me move big, little, and also small things!

C: And I will hide these presents under the tree so Jordan can find them! I'm going to give him some building stuff so he can build much better! Is that nice of me?

Watching me wrap presents ~
C: Can I get rid of a book too?

Me: Get dressed.
C: But my underwear started to unfreeze me!  But my pajamas are the best!

C: What if I stopped growing?
Me: Do you want to be that short for all of your life?
C: No, I want to be a dad!  But my Thomas pajamas would still fit.
Hmm. Decisions, decisions!

C: Everyone that's my friend needs a present.  Everyone on the Earth is my friend!  I am the present-maker. If you need me to make a present, then I will make a present for YOU, Mom!

C: I want to borrow one of Santa's reindeer so I can fly and deliver my presents!  Or I could drive in a car. I'm gonna load them into the car, and you can deliver them.

Colton Makes a Gingerbread House

C: I'm supposed to have someone--YOU--help decorate!
C: Why are they working on the telegraph poles?

Me: I'm leaving and never coming back!
C: I won't drive you crazy anymore, Mom.
Me: I was joking, buddy.  Don't worry.

Dad: If Mom doesn't throw me off the ferry...
C: Why are you gonna throw Dad off the ferry?
Me: Dad is teasing, buddy.
C: Oh. Mom, Dad was just teasing.

Dad: You don't want to wait for me to come back with a yummy lunch?
C: I just want you to get lunch without going shopping.

C: Every day I just want chocolate chip cookies. But not the other kinds.
Me: You don't want the sugar cookies with sprinkles that you made?
C: Also those ones.
Me: What about the date-filled ones?
C: Also those too.
Me: Good to see you aren't picky.

Happy decorating!

Colton on Christmas

Making "gingerbread houses"
Santa: And what do you want for Christmas?
C: I want some things I hadn't had before.

Santa: Can you tell your brothers apart?
C: Maybe my mom can.
Santa: That's okay, because I can't tell them apart either.

C: I want to get something new while I'm waiting for Santa Claus to come!

C: Why don't I get to make the decisions?
Me: You did make a decision.  You decided to not eat what was for dinner and now you can't have something else.
C: But why do you always get to make the decisions?
Me: Because I'm the mom.

You Say Forever, C Says for Ages

Color changing pudding. Mmm, green.
C: I'm going upstairs to change my underwear, but the moon is starting to rise!
Wrong moon running up the stairs...

Me: I thought you hated baths?
C: I didn't like water. I just wanted water the next day, so that's when I had to have a bath!
He likes water today because he got a new squirt gun to try out from the dentist.

C: What did you say?
Me: Nothing.
C: But you said something one time ago.

Me: Did you have a good sleep?
C: I was so tired I couldn't do anything til morning!

Me: Pick up your marbles, bub.
C: But I don't like doing that!  That would take for ages!

Colton Is a Jedi Master

Best baby toy ever - it even entertains C!
C: Can you put the baby down on the playmat now? I have his binky in case he is hungry!

C: My cards exploded! That tickled!

Me: Pick up your cards so we can have dinner.
C: But I don’t like cleaning up stuff. That will make me all tired out and I won’t be able to do anything at all til morning. Mom, I have a headache. I really do. I played goldfish too many times.

C: My head hurts and I can't use it anymore.

Me: Can you show me how you move stuff with your eye?
C: Let me get the correct eye.  There.
C: Are you going to give your rocket ship a try?  How 'bout you just get better at practicing.

C: I might need some needle and thread to help me do this.  [make a paper airplane]

C: Hey Mom, I made you another paper-airplane-rocket.  Was that nice?

C: I am going to make you another paper airplane.  It just takes a little practice.

The rocket ship is just to the left of my computer.  It doesn't fly so well.

Colton on Games

Dad: Hurry up and get dressed so you can have some Dutch babies!
C: But I'm soooooo tired!

Me: Let's go!  We've got to go check on your babies!
C: But Dad is doing a great job!

C: Can we stop at the store and get checkers?
Me: No.  You told me last week that you hated going to the store.
C: Not this time!  Can we please just go get me checkers?
Me: You'll have to ask Santa.
C: I don't think he has it in his bag.

Go Fish with Dad
C: I'm gonna put these corrections [markers in pic above] to help us stay in place!  I'm not gonna use corners; I can only make lines.

C: Do you have any trop-cicle fish?

C: I drew a goal-fish!

C: I got the crab you kept asking me for!
Dad: Colton, do you have any crabs?
C: There's my only one that I just drew.

Colton Feeds the Baby

Colton & Jensen
C: Look at my cool steam-it!  It's not as big as me, so I can't go through it.

the "steam-it"
C: When you sleep, do you get smaller and smaller?

C: What if Dad wasn't signed up for work today?
You sign up for work?

Shooting the ball between the legs of the baby swing ~
C: It got in the hole! That was good shotting!

He gave Jensen a pacifier ~
C: Mom! I'm feeding the baby because he was hungry!

C: He was really hungry!  And you can feed the other baby.

C: He's enjoying his food!  But I'm all done feeding him.
Me: You can stop feeding him.  Thanks, buddy.
C: I'm gonna keep feeding him because he's still hungry.

C: Look, he's trying to feed himself!  Look, he's eating by himself!  Is that amazing?

C: He's still eating!  I think he might eat all night!  And it would be so-so-so boring!

Colton on Commercials

Watching Rudolph with C. At the first commercial break ~
C: Is it over?

In reference to the Zhu Zhu Pet commercial ~
C: Those are good! I like this commershnell!

C: I watched all the commershnells in my Rudolph!  They tell you what is going on in your neighborhood.

C: I'm done with mac and cheese until it snows.  I think ate too much. But I'm always gonna eat grilled cheese sandwiches!

C: Look at that house!  It looks like the North Pole!  Look at that house!  It looks like a skeleton!

C: I want to tell Santa what I want for Christmas.
Me: You can tell him when we go see him at the mall for pictures.
C: Can we just go to the North Pole?
Me: You'd need a plane to get there.
C: Well, that's what I want to do.

How Bout Them Apples?

C: I couldn't find Netflix.
Me: You have to scroll all the way down to the red folder.
C: Oh, I forgot to keep the TV on!

C: I really want to hang glide!
Dad: Where did that come from?
C: I just do!  And you can hold the rope!

C: Do you think Santa Claus came?
Me: I don't know, go check the tree!

C: I like the apple kind of apple juice!  Not the peach kind.

C: When Christmas is all done, I'll be ready to live at the park.

C: It sure is foggy.  But it's sunny over there!  Let's go play over there!

C: Let's check on the muffins!  They look pretty good!  But they're not as big as mountains. They can't get that big or they'll get burnt.
