Colton Has Deep Thoughts

C: Do you like eating chocolate every day?
Me: I do!
C: But it's not healthy for me. It's only healthy for 1 in 100 kids and girls.
Me: And I don't make the cut, eh?
C: But you can eat fruit!
Me: I do eat fruit every day!
C: Did you hear that Sid can't eat cake every day? [Sid the Science Kid on TV]
Me: Yeah, that would probably make his tummy sick.
C:  Yeah, you have to eat lots of 'tritious foods like fish, and chicken, and tortellini and I don't know the rest.
Me: Those are some pretty 'tritious foods.

C: How old will Jordan be when I'm 5?
Me: 5 and a half.
C: But I don't want him to be!  I want to be older!
Me: Sorry, buddy.
C: FINE, then I won't play with him or be his friend!
Me: He would be very sad if you weren't his friend anymore.  And so would Mama, and Sarah, and Nana.
C: But I want to be older than everyone!
Me: Well, who would be your mommy if you were older than everyone?
C: Daddy and I could be the daddies and you could be the mommy.
Me: But not if you're older than me.  I'd be the baby.
C: I just want to be 1 and 100 first!
Me: Okay, you do that.

C: Ooh, Mom, I have a marvelous idea! We could build that train track!

Me: Do you remember what we're having for dinner?
C: I decided that I get to decide!

The Coltons Go to the Museum

Me: What was your favorite thing today?
C: Playing with the other Colton!  Do you think the other Colton likes Slurpees?
Me: Probably.
C: He does, because I like Slurpees and playing with other stuff.

C: I am still sad!  You scared at me!
Me: I'm sorry I snapped at you.

C: Oh, I spilled!
Me: UGH, Colton!
C: It's okay!
Me: No, it's not okay to keep spilling.
This was the fourth spill today (including flooding the laundry room & bathroom) and you could say Mama was starting to lose her schmidt.

C: FINE, I'm never gonna play with you again! I want my Dad to be home in the morning so I can play with him.

C: I'll be done in the bath in 23-hundred minutes!  Would that be a long time?  Would that be my bedtime by the next morning?

C: I'm getting all shiny & clean; as shiny as a bubble!

Colton Has a Nice Day

Me: Sounds like you had a very nice day.
C: Yeah, I wish everything would just stay nice.

C: And it will be dark when we get home.
Me: Yeah, the sun is going down.
C: It's going to see its mommy and say how nice it was.

C: I have the mint!  I have the mint!
Sarah: For what?
C: For the ce-ment!
Jordan: And I have the mud!
...
Jordan: And now we're making the "ce!"

Colton Doesn't Want Brains

Me: BRAIIIIINS!
C: Don't call me that!
Me: I wasn't calling you that, I was grabbing your brains.
C: You can't do that anymore!  I will run really fast!  Faster than the speed lemon!  And you will just have to go the speed lemon.  I will go 60-30-60!  Is that fast?

C: Are we parking in the garage? Our voices will be difficult down there.  Are our voices difficult, Mom?
Me: They're a little distorted, yes.
C: Okay, I'll manage!

C: Do we have enough puff to go to the museum from here [library]
Me: We do, but it'd be a long walk for you.  I think we should probably drive.

C: I damaged my butt on that slide!

C: Why do you keep waiting here?
Me: I'm waiting for the light.
C: And I will cut down the traffic light with some really sharp scissors!

C: We got 2 new kinds of pop-si-cicles!  Chocolate and the colorful kind!

C: Why do you love me every day?
Me: That's my job!

C: I love when you stay home all day.
Me: Me too, buddy.
C: Why do you not stay home every time?
Me: Because I have to work.  But I'll be home every day when our babies come.
C: And I will never let them go back in your tummy!
Me: Nope, they won't ever go back.  They're going to grow and be as big as you.

Colton on Healthy Living

C had his bomber jacket on today. He says he’s never going to take it off so he can be a pilot.

C: I found 3 ripe peas!
Me: Yum!
C: You can have one.
Me: No thanks, not right now.
C: What happens if you don't get big and strong?

C: It sounds like some strawberries are getting ripe!

Lifting with Mom ~
C: Why is this weight heavy?

C: I'm all hot and bothered!  (and all done lifting, apparently)

Colton Goes Camping, Round Two

C: I'll use my pen to see! [in the tunnel]

C: I like this camping spot because it's nice and peaceful.

C: I'll never ask for help in the middle of the night!
There, I have it in writing!

C: Underwear butt!
I suppose that's better than underwear head!

C: I want to have to 20 sleeps in 3 days!

C: What do mosquitoes eat for dinner?
Dad: People.
C: I'll never, ever, ever play with them again, and I will blow them away!

C: Dad can never go past the tent; I don't want him to get lost.

C: How 'bout we find a different river?

C: I like being here sometimes.

C: A bee broke my eye and I didn't want it to.

C: There's lots of instruction to be done!  [construction on their nest]

C: This stick is stronger than a rainbow!

C: The sun is going down and the reason is that the sun is tired.

C: This fire is too smelly for my nose!

Ava: There has to be room for the mommy, the father, and the babies!
C: And I'll be the mommy, and you'll be the father, and the babies are in our tummies!

C: I'm not tired because I can't fit in this nest.

C: I have a problem. Why do I keep getting so many toys?

C: Is this a cookout?  If there's no cooking, then it's a playout!

Colton the Diva?

C: I have to get all shiny & sparkly in my bath tonight for my Nanan to come next day!

C: I hear the ice cream truck! Do you have any green money, Mom?
Me: No, I don't have any cash right now.

It's a Bird, It's a Bee?

Last night he wanted to unbake all the cookies so he could have the chocolate chips for his pancakes this morning.

C: Look at all those birdies! Are they making honey?
Us: Birds don't make honey, silly!

C: When we get home, I am going to pick up all my dishes then open the cookie pot and eat all the cookies!
Love the cookie pot 😉

Me: I want to take a rest too.
C: You can sit on the couch and rest with your eyes open and look at your computer.
Me: But I want to rest with my eyes closed.
C: You have to rest with your eyes open, so you can look at your computer, because it has so many exciting things!

C: That's the rules! All's well!

The Three Choices

Colton bonks his ear on the door handle ~
C: OW!  I just hurt my ear!  And if someone says I have to have my listening ears on, they'll be all burnt out.

C: You guys are just giving me obnoxious ideas!
We were taking too long to go to the museum...

Dad: We have to go the fruit stand today.
C: We can give Mama the spicy fruit!  Because I don't like spicy fruit.  I just like spicy eggs.

C: You guys just have 3 choices.
Dad: What are my 3 choices?
C: We can go to the museum, and then come home and play trains!
Dad: What are my other choices?
C: Well....we can play trains after we go to the museum!
Dad: You already gave me that choice.
C: Well, I just gave you three!

It's Hard to Be 4

C: When will you buy me something new? (x1,000,000 times today...ugh!)
Me: You can buy yourself something when you earn some money by doing your jobs.
C: What are my jobs?
Me: Cleaning up your toys and clothes.

Helping him clean up his toys ~
C: Are we earning lots of money?
Me: No, Mama doesn't make any money by cleaning the house. As evidenced by the house itself!

On baking cookies ~
C: They're getting yummier!

C: I need to relax and read my magazines!

Reading his magazines
C: Why is this the push-start song? I want Fireflies!

Colton Is a Grump

Me: What did you do today?
C: Nothing exciting!
Me: Nothing at all?
C: I said I didn't do anything exciting!

Later ~
Me: What was your favorite thing today?
C: I didn't like anything!  I just liked playing with Jor.

6am the next morning ~
C: I think it's too early for me to be awake.
I agree!

C: Why do you never buy me something new?
Me: We don't buy something new every day.
C: Well, you could just buy more money.
Is that all?

In the bath ~
C: I'm done shaving!

C: I'm putting cinnamon in your water, so be careful!

Colton Is a Camping Boy

Every night since his birthday party (7/9), Colton has slept in his Thomas tent.  He curls up inside and is perfectly content.

Some perspective ~ it's tiny!
Peek!
Sleepy Colton
Dad: Go give Mom a night kiss.
Colton comes up and plants a kiss on my belly ~
C: I kissed the babies!

C: Upstairs in my room, I can spin on 1 foot!   Because I'm 4 years old!  Want to come up and see me?  You could pause your work!

C: You can have some macaroni and cheese!  I just LOVE macaroni and cheese!  I want it every day! With a cookie!  And then I will poop.  The end.  That's the end of the story, Mom!
Me: That was a lovely story.

C: How old will my babies be when I'm 30-hundred?
Me: I don't know.
C: Maybe they're gonna be 16.

C: Mom, do you know anything about stuff?
Me: Yeah, I know stuff about stuff.

Colton on Bedtime

River trail bike ride
C: Bridger says I'm the mommy and he's the daddy.
Me: Oh, well, will you tuck me in tonight?
C: Yeah!  But first you have to brush your teeth.  And I'll turn over my timer that has blue stuff in it.  When no more blue stuff comes down, I'll turn it back over so you can rinse and spit. And then you can pick some stories!
Me: Can I have two stories?
C: You can have four!
Me: Yay!

C: Those are my favorite birdies!  (robins along the trail)

Colton vs Hockey, and Wins!

Hockey update: up & skating tonight!!   No trouble getting up on his skates and he started to slowly shuffle from one end to the other, as well as participated in the warmup exercises to the best of his ability (some jumping & falling, etc).  Session ended tonight and we'll rejoin in August.

C: I'm just out of fuel.
Dad: Is it time to put jammies on when we get home?
Me: And tuck Mama in and read her a story?
C: No.
Me: Why not?
C: I can't read by myself.
Me: You can use your pen.
C: My pen doesn't work on your books.

Post-session BBQ; also post-cupcake ;)

Putting his hand on my belly -
C: I got one of the babies!

Colton Spends a Day with Thomas

Me: ... and you have hockey tomorrow after I get home from work.
C: And I'm 4 now, so I know how to skate!  And I can teach you!  First you need to get some skates and then you go out onto the ice and start skating.
Sounds easy enough.

Leaving Day Out with Thomas was hard ~
C: But I only got to play for a little bit!  I want to stay and play for seven six hundred minutes!

Dad: Did you say thank you for your new train?
C: To who?
Dad: Someone in this car.  Did you tell Mommy thank you?
C: Mommy, thank you for coming with us today!
Dad: You're supposed to thank her for your train, goofus!

C: I don't think I have so many tracks.
Me: I think you do.

C: I'm in your kitchen making some track!

C: Rubble's blocking my way!
(aka a fallen tub o' toys)

While playing a game... HA!
C: Do I get to sleep on the couch tonight?

And Today, We Celebrate!

C: How old will I be when you're 20?
Me: I've already been 20.
C: When you get to 20, you just get to start over.

Dad: Mommy needs to wake up a little.
C: You just have to get off the couch.
Me: Give me a second to wake up, kiddo.

C: When are you going to sleep?
Me: Later.
C: 9 o'clock?
Me: Probably after that.
C: When you're 9, you can stay up til 9 so you just have to go to bed at 9.  Are you 9?

C: Can we go hiking today?
Me: Not today, people are coming over for your party.
C: Why is it my birthday party every time?
Me: Only happens once a year, kiddo.

C: It's still day!

Next day ~
Me What was your favorite part of the day?
C: I got to have a birthday sleepover!

Coltons Just Want to Have Fun!

Nanan zerberts Colton ~
C: It's my turn to spit on you!

While weeding ~
C: Mom, I found some grass in the dirt!  This grass isn't good for the Earth!

C: Do you know how much fun I want in the morning?
Me: No, how much?
C: 700 fun!

Colton Knows Everything

C: Hey guys, I just know everything!

While riding his bike ~
C: Are you proud of me?
Me: I'm always proud of you!

C: What's the herb garden?
Me: Remember the planter boxes outside that you helped me plant?
C: Yeah! Let's keep them.

C: How old do I have to be to be a mommy?
Me: Please wait at least until you're 18.  And you get to be a daddy!

Colton Does the Fourth

Red, white & blue bike ride!
2.2 mi bike ride with the kiddo out on the river trail while Mom attempted that running thing when I wasn't pulling the little guy over hills/bumps and out of the mud.  Much more walking for me these days, but it was still a nice one!

Me: Should we make peanut butter cookies or peanut butter and chocolate cookies?
C: No thanks, I'm just making jam!
Dad & Colton made a batch of strawberry jam.  Yummo!

C: I'm just gonna annoy you and I will watch more fireworks than you!

 Sparklers were stinky
C: Hey Justin!  ... Hey Justin! ... Hey Justin! ... Hey Justin! ... Hey Justin! ... Hey Justin! ... Hey Justin! ... Hey Justin! ... Hey Justin! ... Hey Justin! ... Hey Justin! ... Hey Justin! ... Hey Justin! ... We have cute fireworks.

C: Can we do some different fireworks?

C: I want a firework with all sorts of kinds of colors!

C: I'm all hot and bothered.

On the way home ~
C: FIREWORKS! ... Fireworks! ... fireworks over there... fireworks... Zzz...

Colton Goes Camping

Me: I'm gonna be allllll alone in the tent tonight.
Sarah: Who is gonna keep Mama warm?
C: She can just keep herself warm.
Me: Oh, thanks.

C: Nana, my bed fell down!
(C's sleeping bag fell off the bed and onto the ground in the middle of the night.  Whoops!)

C: Why do you make me sad every time?
Me: I'm sorry you're sad, but we have to go home today.

Heh... C's pen read him The Little Engine That Could on the way home & it promptly put him to sleep.

Me: Watch Mama's tummy, do you see it moving?
C: Yeah!
Me: That's the babies kicking.
C: I think they're going to try to make you throw up.

Me: Mama's tired, buddy.  You got to take a nap in the car and I didn't.
C: You should've asked me if you could take a nap, but you didn't ask.
Me: Were you going to drive us home?
C: No, because I don't know how to drive! I'm only 3 and a half.  Maybe when I'm 4.
