Colton Does Leap Day

Watching it snow!
C: If we water the puffy willows, they will grow!

C: I really love when it's puffing out!

C: I need to whisper something in your ear. *whispers* Mom, when you go to work, I will go with you every day!

Me: Today is Leap Day.  It only happens once every 4 years.  Did you know that?
C: And Mom? I really need to go pee.
Me: You go do that.  Good to know what I say is really sinking in there.

C: If you don't like Angry Birds, you just have to try!

C: I'm all done!
Me: You need to take a couple of more bites.
C: How about just 3?
Me: Sounds good.
....
Me: Hey, you didn't take any bites out of this sandwich!
C: I took 3 tiny bites.
Me: It doesn't look like you took any bites.  You just wanted to play on the iPod...
C: Yep!

Colton Believes in Magic

Reading Puss in Boots, since we just finished the movie ~
Me (reading): The King immediately commanded the officers of his wardrobe to run and fetch one of his best suits for the Lord Marquis of Carabas.
C: Why do those guys have a wardrobe?

C: I'm saving marbles on top of my head, under my hat!

C: This train is old because it's not very useful!

C: This train hasn't been used in a hundred-hundred years because of all this dust.

Dad: Hopefully he's done crankin'.  (Jensen)
C: He's not allowed to come downstairs if he's cranky forever!

Me: Are the beans you got magic beans?
C: Maybe. Because we got them at the fruit market.

Me: What's all over your pants?
C: Peanut butter.
Me: Why do you have peanut butter on your pants?
C: It's from when I was eating peanut butter and Cheerios for snack.
Me: You need to ask before you have peanut butter.
C: Oh, sorry.  But I didn't want to wake my dad!
LOL, this boy is so like his mama with regard to peanut butter!

Hi, it’s “Dad” here, with a special guest blog section. ~

Of course you’ve been enjoying all of the Coltonisms, as do we when we hear them. Today’s episode, which occurred at the local Fruit/Vegetable Market, has a little bit of a light tone to it but also underscores the difference in attitude towards food that Colton has as compared to many other children that we have seen or heard stories about.

Scene: We are in the vegetable aisle at the market, having already gone through the fruit section. Colton’s last selection was a pair of avocados larger than my fist.

Now first, we will see how this conversation would have gone with just about any other child ~

Dad: Ooh, hey. Should we get more green beans?
OC: Ewwww! No!
Dad: Why not?
OC: I don’t like beans. They’re (insert negative adjective here).

What ACTUALLY happened ~
Dad: Ooh, hey. Should we get more green beans?
C: YEAH! Hey can I pick them out?
Dad: Sure, buddy. Let me get a bag.
C: YAAAY!

It struck me after we checked out that pretty much any other kid I know would have been grossed out by fresh green beans. I generally don’t like to stir the political pot, that’s my dad’s thing. But in this case, I think we should all take a hard look at how we feed our own children. Especially if we complain about what our schools feed them.

Colton in Charge

Colton & "D-pants" as he's been calling him today.
Me: Look at you doing chores!
C: I just want to take care of the house so you don't have to! You can just take care of the babies!

Me: Out of my kitchen!
C: It's not your kitchen!
Me: When I am cooking, it's my kitchen.

C: I know what to do for the house.  I will make dinner.
Me: Oh, you will? What is Dad going to eat?  He doesn't want mac & cheese.
C: Oh. You can just make dinner. And take care of the babies.

C: Remember Mom, I am in charge of the house.  I am in charge of the house and my trains. And I will wind the clock so you don't have to!  You can just take care of the babies.

C: I'm so sorry, Mom. I have a headache.
Me: Did you drink some water?  You were a pretty sweaty boy at hockey.
C: That's why I didn't want to be signed up for hockey.
Doh!

C: Can I dip my peanut butter and pretzels in that?
Me: I don't think that would be very good. (garlic hummus)

Me: Colton? Where did you put the mac & cheese?
C: It's just on the stairs.
Me: It's hard for me to make it for you when it's over there.

C: Mom, I never want to lose you.
Me: Good thing!

Me: Ready for your bath?
C: Oh. When I am done sitting with you.
Still a snuggler to this day.

C: Mom! My headache is gone by resting behind your back!
Me: Yay for magical backs!

C: This chair is only for people that don't feel well with their heads.

C: Can I have some jammies from the dryer?
Me: Your jammies aren't in the dryer.
C: You have to check to know!
Me: I do know since I did laundry last.

Me: You get to go with Dad to pick out donuts tomorrow!  Will you pick me out a good one?
C: What color do you want?
Me: Pink.
C: It has to be a color in the rainbow. You can have a red one. I will email it to you!  I will email you a picture so you know what color you are getting.
Me: Great diet plan, buddy.

Colton Does President's Day

C: This water broke into pieces last night!
Me: Yeah, the ice melted.

C: If you stay in your exercise class for the whole hour, you will earn the big hug I'm gonna give you!

C: How many hockey games do we have left?
Me: 3 games and 3 practices, I think.  And then we'll have a nice, big break.
C: And I might go into the HL!
Me: Not without lots of practice.
C: I don't want to practice.
Me: That's the only way you'll get into the NHL, bud.

C: Dad can't hold any more babies! He already has 2!

C: I'm just hiding in here (wardrobe) because this show is really scary. And also because I have a horrible cough.

C: Do you know what else we get to do?!
Dad: What?
C: Eat more pie!

Colton & the Wardrobe

C: The babies and I are gonna hide and you can count!
Me: One...Two...Three...Four...Five...Six...Seven...Eight...Nine...Ten
... 20 minutes later ...
Dad: Colton would like you to seek him now. You'll never be able to find him.
Me: Wardrobe?
Dad: Yep.
... 20 minutes later ...
C: Mom? Do you want to play hide and seek with me?

C: Why do you call the babies D and J?
Me: Same reason I call you C sometimes.
C: I don't like that. I will just call you MM.
Me: Okay.

C: I made both babies smile! Even Denton & even Jensen!

C: What are you doing?
Me: Letting the dogs in.
C: I'm just gonna go hide in the wardrobe.  I like the wardrobe.

Me: What should we have for dinner?
C: Let me check.... I know!  We could have hard-boiled eggs!

Colton Watches Narnia

Colton & I have been reading the Lion, Witch, and the Wardrobe.  The language is a little beyond him, but we talk about what's happened after each chapter.  He got VERY excited when I told him there was a movie based on the book.

And what better place to watch it?  Why, from the wardrobe!

Me: Where are they?
C: They're at the lamppost!

C: This is the pride of the keep!

C: This is the keep of the house!  It will keep us safe!  Do you want to come in the wardrobe with me?

C: I will just close the doors during the scary parts.  This part is pretty scary.

C: I am in here and I am fine!

C: I really love this wardrobe!

C: I'm trying to get the back open.

C: Mom, I feel the back moving!

C: I really want to go somewhere in this wardrobe!

C: I need to pack my bed so I'll be ready to go!

C: This is a very special airplane called a model.  It's a very silly airplane.

Princess Colton

Awesome!
Me: Do you want any lettuce on your burrito?
C: No.
Me: I didn't think so, but thought I'd ask.
C: I'm allergic to lettuce.

C: You have to follow one of the lines on this map to get home.

C: You can just use this card (valentine) as my birthday card!

C: Why is it never gonna be charged?! Why is it never gonna be 5 o'clock?!
Me: Remember, if you have an attitude, that you won't get to play on the iPod.
C: Oh. Sorry.

Colton got to play on my iPod this afternoon, which I handed to him in the kitchen.  He was still standing there 30 minutes later.  He made it to the stairs an hour or so after that.  Angry Birds is apparently that addictive.

I told him it should be charged by 5pm, so he checked the clock every 5 minutes from 3:45-5pm.

Colton Does Valentine's Day

On licking the candle from Grandma's b-day cake ~
C: We can just share the lick! Can I have a turn?

While putting together class valentines ~
C: These are for people that really love each other!

On receiving heart window clings ~
C: *gasp* This is what I always wanted!

Nanan's valentine...a little Dora heavy
C: I made you a map of the whole Earth! See how all the hearts are connected? There is Jordan's house, Nanan's house, my house, and Uncle Jon's house!

Colton's class mailed out valentines ~
C: You are going to get an email in an envelope!

C: I was just telling the baby "Yeah."  Was that saying yes in English?

Me: Go sit.
C: I was just checking to make sure you were all right.
Me: I'm fine, bud.  Go finish your dinner.

Colton Is Wise

While driving ~
C: Try not to run into the wall.
Me: Okay, I'll try.

C: I'm so hungry, I could eat the whole Earth!
Me: What would all the people eat if you ate the Earth?
C: They could just buy their own food.

Using maps app on my iPod ~
C: Mom, I'm trying to find the end of the Earth!

C: I'm going to find the greatest place there ever was!

Me: Did you find the greatest place on the Earth?
C: No, it wouldn't let me go there.  I was trying to find the end of the Earth.  You have to go over the mountains to Europe and then to 'Mano Park! (Camano Island Park)

Me: Boys that pick their nose do not get to play on my iPod!
C: I'm done!
Me: With my iPod or picking your nose?
C: Picking my nose.

C: And you race around like this!  ZZZZzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz!
Dad: How many Zs are in that?
C: 22!

C: I have just two babies left because YOU wouldn't take care of them like I told you to.

A Colton-In-The-Box!

C: Guess what, Mom!  You earned a sticker!
Me: For putting up with you this evening?
C: Yeah!

C: You need to take care of this baby too!
Me: I already have enough babies to take care of, thankyouverymuch.

C: There are three stages to build this racing track!  First, you have to find a spot to put it. Second, you roll the mat out. And this is the good part! Third, you get the cars out!

C: This is my hiding spot to play hide and seek! (the box)

C: See, Mom? See how soft it feels? (the blanket in the box)
